Project Overview
As Rechub developed successfully, we saw a window of opportunity to move upstream in the market and achieve vertical growth. We used my years of teaching experience and certifications, along with our understanding that our customers required language proficiency certifications like IELTS, to develop a specialized service within Rechub. In addition to strategically strengthening Rechub’s market position and broadening our service offerings, this new vertical was created to offer a thorough and customized learning experience.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Vertical Growth:
- Identified a critical market need for language proficiency certifications, particularly IELTS, among our Rechub customers.
- Developed a strategy to vertically integrate this service into Rechub’s existing platform, enabling us to capture a larger share of the market by offering end-to-end solutions for our clients.
- Designed a customer journey that began with a thorough assessment of each student’s language skills, adapted from IELTS standards, covering speaking, reading, writing, and listening components.
Innovative Assessment & Personalized Learning:
- Collaborated with psychologists to conduct psychometric assessments, determining each student’s intelligence capabilities and learning type.
- Based on these assessments, developed customized learning plans that included specific materials (books, pamphlets, videos, movies, animations, games, music, etc.) and personalized methods of learning (when to read, what to read, how to study, entertainment options, repetition strategies, etc.).
- Implemented an Agile-inspired planning approach for each student, regularly adapting and optimizing their learning journey based on progress and feedback.
Technology-Enhanced Learning Platform:
- Led the development of an innovative website that featured a variety of interactive tools and utilities to enhance the learning experience.
- Introduced features such as music with lyrics for singing practice, movies with slang and phrase definitions, and gamified learning experiences, creating a highly engaging and effective educational environment.
- Planned the development of a championship league where students could compete in different tasks, fostering a sense of community and motivation among learners.
Marketing & Customer Acquisition:
- Coordinated with the digital marketing team to design and execute targeted campaigns, leveraging SEO, SEM, video marketing, and other strategies to attract a large number of students to the platform.
- Partnered with various businesses and participated in different campaigns to enhance brand visibility and drive customer acquisition.
- Successfully helped numerous students achieve their required IELTS certifications within six months, demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach and contributing to significant market share growth.
Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Led a cross-functional team comprising digital marketers (SEO, SEM, video marketing, etc.), developers, designers, teachers, principals, and class supervisors.
- Ensured seamless collaboration across teams, driving continuous improvement in both the educational content and the platform’s technical infrastructure.
- Fostered a culture of innovation and excellence, encouraging team members to contribute ideas that enhanced the overall learning experience.
Market Challenges & Learning Outcomes:
- Despite the vertical’s initial success, external challenges such as the Iranian government’s ban on IELTS exams and the broader issues faced by Rechub led to significant setbacks.
- Although the initiative was eventually shut down due to these circumstances, the experience provided invaluable insights into market dynamics, product development, and strategic growth.
- As a founder and product leader, I gained a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in scaling a business, managing cross-functional teams, and navigating external risks.
Conclusion
The Rechub vertical for language competency certification was created as a calculated move to increase our market share and provide our customers with all-inclusive services. Through the integration of cutting-edge technological solutions and customized education plans, we developed an incredibly successful learning platform that increased our market share. Even though the project had to be closed due to outside issues in the end, the experience helped me grow as an entrepreneur and product leader. It reaffirmed how crucial flexibility, strategic thinking, and resilience are when confronted with unforeseen difficulties.
